How I First Met Shaklee: the start to self-discovery

Five years ago, a chance encounter with a remarkable couple ignited a journey of self-discovery that would change my life forever. As a health and wellness advocate, I was initially skeptical when introduced to Shaklee, a company promising natural solutions to complex health challenges. At the time I was working at the YMCA in Plaistow NH as the Health Initiative Programmer directing a program called Cornerstone. This was a free cancer survivorship program to help individuals combat their cancer diagnosis through exercise and heartfelt connection. AMAZING is an understatement to describe this program. Part of the registration process was to sit down with individual survivors and their families to discuss the mission and give them hope along this new journey. There was one family in particular who, whether they (or I) realized or not, changed my outlook on life forever!

The wife, whom we'll call Anne, came in guns loaded and ready to knock out this cancer and other chronic illnesses her husband had been battling for the last 10 years. While knowing her husband wouldn't give all the details, like most husbands do, she sat at the edge of her seat ready for the next question to answer. But instead of a typical "intake session" of asking about the medical side of things, I began to ask about their life, what they did for a living and how their path led them here, at the Y. From what Anne explained, her husband was a very stubborn man, who had spent far too many hours in the lab and who desperately needed the motivation to move! While her input was valid, I turned to him to hear his side of the story. He immediately lit up when I asked him what he did. He started to share his life story and passion for the earth as an environmentalist. That didn't surprise me one bit, because he had that mad scientist kind of look. He wore oversized glasses that dented the side of his nose and a button up shirt with tan khakis that was definitely one of the many duplicate outfits in his closet. There were bags under his eyes and he sat in a rather slouched position, probably from sitting at the microscope for perhaps too many hours. He walked with a cane; the toll of fibromyalgia and cancer had significantly affected his ability to move. Regardless, I could tell he loved his life. He was proud of his work. And his wife knew it was time to make some changes to extend their love story much longer than what was expected!

These sessions are supposed to last only 60 minutes and at this point in our conversation we were already at 45 min. If you know anything about me, I'm always going overtime and running late. My anxiety was rising with the thought that we hadn't gone over any of the steps listed on my clipboard, I still had half of the questions to ask them and a gym tour to take them on. At this point it truly didn't matter, Anne already knew exactly what needed to happen next. She saw the anxiety in my eyes, explained they didn't need a tour and immediately signed up for a membership for the two of them and 1on1 training for her husband.

The last 15 minutes of our session Anne so gracefully gave her side to the story; their Shaklee success story. As I got to know these two, I realized that Anne found Shaklee to better her husband's chances for survival. She spread Shaklee to the world as if she was throwing candy out of her Mary Poppins bag at a 4th of July parade. She was kind, loving and an incredibly giving soul. You could tell that the duo truly loved the earth and strongly believed in the power of nature. Anne, in particular saw something in me that I did not see before and that is when she introduced me to Shaklee's cleaning products, which truly capitalized their passion for nature. Before leaving she willingly gave me a few Energizing Tea sticks, her business card just in case I had any questions and the biggest heartfelt hug.

I didn't use those tea sticks for about a year after meeting Anne, but I did purchase the cleaning products - I’m still using the original Scour Off and GermX I purchased about 4 years ago. She knew I could make a difference with this company, the only thing was, I wasn’t fully convinced. I didn’t understand the significance it would have on my life. Regardless, this is when I started to really dig into the research and science behind nature and ALL of the flaws in healthcare. That was when I became hooked, almost obsessed with finding the truth behind health.

Ever since high school I was fascinated by science; it was real! I began to realize that EVERYTHING Shaklee represented came from nature - no additives, no chemicals, no preservatives - nothing that could potentially cause havoc to the environment or our bodies as a whole. AND their research is like no other. They thoroughly, I mean thoroughly look into every single product they produce with a microscope to ensure quality. I literally have NOT found anything better - and believe me, I've looked. At a young age, hot off the college bus there was one thing that hindered my commitment: the price. Money and I at that time, did not get along. Then my husband and I made the commitment to prioritize HEALTH by eliminating the crap in our cupboards and infusing Shaklee into our lives bit by bit. It was the best investment we have made thus far.

I began to notice radical changes in my life around things that I, at the time, didn't realize were a problem. I began to notice a change in my skin, an increase in energy and decreased soreness after workouts. I found out that my body doesn’t agree with certain foods and the detergent I was using was creating a heat rash on my arms. Every step of the way Anne so delicately introduced me to products she thought I would benefit from. And almost every time my ego didn't want to believe that these little pills and changing my soaps and laundry detergent would make a difference, they did!

If this story doesn't hit home (yet), please know that this is NOT a sales pitch, it's a story about discovering something that I would kick myself for not sharing with others. You don't truly realize the affect of something until you experience it yourself. This takes commitment, consistency and faith. Health is messy, so you shouldn't have to do it alone. This took time for me to comprehend and gosh, I'm still learning about my body everyday. What I will say is, take a moment right now to reflect on your personal life. Think about your family, friends, and your collective struggles. Are there any gaps in your lives physically, mentally, emotionally, socially or financially? If that's a "yes", then you've found the right place to start discovering your most authentic soul! Book a Discovery Call with me TODAY - I'm ready to listen if you're ready to share!
